As soon as Eli sent the blunt text to the man he'd been seeing while tensely seated at his desk in his luxurious office, his heart lurched. He knew that the instant Cody received and read the message, his heart would lurch as well. Yet, after the disastrous meeting that day, he had no choice.

He just closed his eyes and waited for the response.

That week had been a stressful one for Eli – more than usual. While his everyday tasks remained much the same, he felt like they weighed more heavily on his shoulders than ever before. He didn't know how much of the feeling was connected to the fact that he'd been doing the same thing for years or that he wished he had more free time to see Cody. Nonetheless, while his tasks and duties as a portfolio manager kept his mind sharp, he found at times that he wanted nothing more than to be whisked away from it all.

Maybe it was time for a vacation – a vacation away with Cody.

There were so many places that he could explore with Cody. He barely even knew where to begin, but he thought taking Cody to Europe would be an excellent place to start. He'd naturally take him to all of the most romantic cities and attractions first and then work his way down to the hidden gems – places most travelers didn't know about, romantic spots off the beaten path.

He wondered if Cody had ever been out of the country before. If not, it would be a great opportunity to strengthen their relationship by exploring new things together (although Eli had been to Europe and across the world times before). He also wanted to try adventure sports like hang-gliding with Cody and had already started looking up adventure companies overseas.

“You're looking very distracted today.”

The voice of a young man sitting across from him at his ornate desk jarred the billionaire out of his thoughts. The young man, Eric Snow, was one of many analysts who worked with him on a daily basis to determine which securities to buy or sell. In the end, it was ultimately up to Eli to make the final decision on any matter, although a lot of it depended on his analysts' recommendations.

“Sorry,” Eli murmured, clearing his throat as he shook his head, running his hand back through his hair.

“Relationship problems?” Eric promptly gently. He had worked with Eli long enough to be able to discuss some personal details now and again.

Eli raised a brow, but then sighed and leaned back in his chair, looking away from his papers, computer, and phone for even just a few seconds. “Things are going pretty good, actually, although we've only been seeing each other for two or three weeks now. It's just... I'm not particularly fond of his job.”

“Oh? Where does he work?” Eric asked, neatly sorting through the pile of papers and folders on the desk between them.
